Our Philosophy
We seek to praise, set and encourage positive qualities such as responsibility, respect, confidence, and courage in all our players. Winning is always a measure of success in sports but we are most committed to ensuring that players thrive in a positive culture where they can have fun and find joy in the game of soccer. Our program is aimed at the long-term development of each player's skills and her love for the game.
Our Coaches
Steve Patterson, Assistant Coach
“Coach P” is a USSF D Licensed Coach who returned to the pitch in 2023 after forming and leading VISTA teams at the highest levels in Northern Virgina during the 1990s and 2000s. A lifetime student of the game, his tactical insights and understanding of positional roles help accelerate player development.
Coach P mentored dozens of young professionals as a Chief of Staff in Congress for 25 years and as a father of two daughters who excelled at soccer, he understands the value of team sports for young women to develop important life skills, such as self-reliance, positivity and leadership.

Megan Whitney, Head Coach
Coach Megan is a USSF C Licensed Coach with more than 10 years of experience coaching boys and girls ages 5–16 at both the recreational and competitive travel levels. A former Division I travel and high school player from Fairfax, Virginia, she brings firsthand playing experience and a deep understanding of the game to her coaching.
In addition to her coaching background, Coach Megan is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in child and adolescent mental health. This unique combination allows her to take a player-centered approach that prioritizes individual development, positive team culture, emotional resilience, and a lifelong love of the game.
Coach Megan is passionate about helping young athletes reach their potential both on and off the field while fostering an environment where players can grow in confidence, character, and skill. She is also a strong advocate for expanding opportunities for female players and coaches within the sport.

Why Choose an Independent Team?
At VISTA Storm, we're proud to be an independent team. Being independent means we're free to make decisions based on what's best for our players-not a larger club organization.

Benefits of Playing for an Independent team:
Player-Focused, Not Club-Focused
Every decision is made with our player's development and experience in mind.
Known as a Player, Not a Number
Coaches build meaningful relationships with players and families and take the time to understand each player's goals and strengths.
Consistent Coaching and Vision
Players benefit from a stable environment with coaches who are invested in their long-term growth.
Strong Team Culture
We prioritize teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, and creating an environment where players enjoy coming to training.
Development over Politics
Playing time, opportunities, and player growth are earned through effort, attitude and commitment.
Affordable Competitive Soccer
Independent teams provide a high-level soccer experience at a lower cost than larger club organizations.
A Family Atmosphere
Players, coaches, and families work together to create a supportive community where everyone feels valued.
Flexibility and Innovation
Without layers of club bureaucracy, we can adapt quickly and create opportunities that best serve our players and team.
What is VISTA?
VISTA is the acronym for the Virginia Independent Soccer Team Association, a statewide organization with about 30 youth soccer teams.
Vista Storm was formed in January 2025 with a mission to provide a competitive, player centered environment where athletes could develop their skills, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love of the game. We believe we are addressing a need for more opportunities for young female soccer players in this area that include Orange, Spotsylvania, Stafford and neighboring counties.
